Description
This course is designed to give candidates the knowledge and understanding of the duties of the Safe System of Work Planner. This course is a 3- day classroom-based course. This course is for anyone who currently holds a full COSS or IWA competence and who are required to routinely produce a Safe Work Pack (SWP) for staff required to work ‘on or near the line’ on Network Rail Managed Infrastructure.

Course Prerequisites
- Delegates must hold a valid Sentinel Card endorsed with a full valid IWA/COSS competence
- Evidence of IWA/COSS workplace experience (IWA/COSS logbook entries)
- Candidates must have a good command of the English language
- Candidates must be primary sponsored
Course Outcome
Successful candidates will be notified to sentinel as being trained and assessed as competent and their sentinel card will be endorsed (P) SSoWP. The competence will be valid for four months initially under a probationary mentoring period whereby the primary sponsor is responsible for ensuring the candidate is mentored. Candidates need to undertake a workplace assessment within four months to ensure they can safely and effectively undertake the role of the SSoWP. Once the probationary assessment is completed the SSoWP competence will be valid for 2 years – with a workplace assessment required within 9-15 months. To recertify, candidates must ensure they complete a minimum of four SWP’s, one line manager review and two site visits from their interim assessment and have them recorded within their work experience sheets.
