Description
The SWL recertification is designed to assess candidates’ knowledge of the role of the SWL. The SWL recertification is a half day event where candidates complete an exam in relation to SWL duties. Candidates who hold SWL 1 will complete the SWL 1 exam and candidates who hold SWL 1 and SWL 2 will complete the SWL 2 exam.
Course Prerequisites
- Candidates must hold a valid SWL 1 or SWL 2 competence due to expire within 8 weeks, or it must have expired within 8 weeks to be eligible for re-certification.
- Candidates must hold a valid Medical Level 1 and Drugs and Alcohol certificate issued by Network Rail
- Candidates must have a good command of the English language
- Candidates must be primary sponsored
Course Outcome
Successful candidates will be notified to sentinel as being trained and assessed as competent and their sentinel card will be endorsed SWL 1 / SWL 2 as appropriate. The competence will be valid for five years.
Duration
The exam takes approximately 1 hour to complete - there is no time limit. Seaton Rail also offer half day sessions which include recapping of the requirements of the SWL, the identification of hazards, control measures and the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work act, including how SWL’s can manage risk to the railway workforce.
